Constructed in 1910, the historic John Greenleaf Whittier School in Camden, New Jersey, underwent significant renovations to provide a safe, state-of-the-art learning environment for students, while simultaneously preserving the history and integrity of the original school building.
Upgrades included a new ultra-modern gymnasium, all new electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, new roof, all new fire and life safety systems, security cameras, and a new playing field.
TBS was engaged by the lead architect to provide building envelope consulting for the project. These services included survey of the existing exterior components (copings, parapets, roof system, gutters, brick, ornamental masonry, windows, doors etc.); recommendations on remedial work; development of the necessary documentation for the repairs; as well as development of a roof plan in coordination with new roof-top mechanical systems.
TBS also provided Construction Contract Administration Phase services for the project.
The renovated school reopened for the 2017-2018 academic year.
