The Bob Carpenter Sports and Convocation Center is the home of men’s and women’s basketball and is also used for a wide variety of educational, social, athletic, and cultural programs and events. The building’s exterior cladding is comprised of brick and concrete masonry, cast stone and metal panels at a majority of the first-floor level, and mostly EIFS at the concourse and upper levels.

TBS worked with the University to assess the condition of the exterior sealants and cladding, including the split face concrete masonry units (SFCMU), brick, cast stone, and exterior insulation finish system (EIFS). Based on the preliminary recommendations from our assessment report, TBS created working biddable construction documents outlining areas of repair and replacement across each elevation for all cladding systems throughout the building.

The drawings and approved scope of work included removal and replacement of brick and CMU masonry with installation of new flashings at doors and windows; new locker room and stair tower doors; and removal and replacement of existing sealant at control and expansion joints. Also included was the removal and replacement of areas of damaged EIFS, repairs to cracked and deteriorated EIFS and replacement of large sections of EIFS after window and flashing repairs. Upon completion of repairs, all EIFS was coated with an elastomeric coating.
